About Us
Dr DD Shastry is a specialist ophthalmologist who obtained her medical degree (MBChB) from The University of Pretoria. During her training years, Dr Shastry worked in different hospitals throughout the city of Tshwane, where she was exposed to several disciplines and specialties – notably her position as a medical officer in a general surgery unit. It was here that her love for the operating environment developed.
After completing her ophthalmology training, she obtained her postgraduate qualification in Ophthalmology from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa and her Master of Medicine (MMed) in Ophthalmology.
Dr Shastry regularly attends national and international congresses to keep abreast of the latest advancements in her field and manages her patients according to best medical practices. By working with other specialists in various interrelated fields, such as physicians, neurologists, neurosurgeons and ENT specialists, Dr Shastry has nurtured close ties with colleagues, ensuring she co-manages patients with other doctors and optometrists in different fields with expertise.
Dr DD Shastry has always been passionate about making healthcare services accessible to her local community and increasing awareness around vision-threatening eye conditions.
Dr Shastry’s work ethic and passion for ophthalmology are inspired by her motto: "It is unbelievable how powerful you can be when you have a clear vision."
