About Us
Serna Smit is an Occupational Therapist based in Moreleta Park, Pretoria. A child’s occupation is to play and learn. Some children can have difficulties with play and learning, possibly because of conditions they have been born with, perhaps an injury, changes in their life, or simply differences in their learning style and needs.
Services
Paediatrics
Our assessments evaluate a child's physical, cognitive, emotional and sensory abilities. We use a wide variety of developmental assessments to evaluate neuromuscular development, fine and gross motor skills, sensory integration and regulation, visual perceptual skills, cognitive and learning skills, and attention and organisation skills.
Sensory Integration
Sensory Integration Theory is the process where we receive information through our senses, organise and use this information to participate in everyday activities. Sensory Integration Therapy is a therapeutic approach based on this theory.
School Readiness
School Readiness is to help children be as independent as possible in all areas of their daily life. For school-aged children and pre-schoolers, this of course, includes school.
Developmental Delays
Childhood development refers to the maturity process that a child goes through from birth through to adolescence. Developmental delay is indicated when a child has not reached particular milestones by the expected time period.
